Your preparation is complete and you are ready to head to the exam. Here are a few tips to keep in mind to ensure your best possible score on exam day.
* Gather your supplies the night before the exam, including pencils and a calculator. Be sure your calculator has fresh batteries!
* Bring a watch to the exam. (Be sure it is a non-beeping watch.) Use the watch to keep track of your time during the exam.
* Make sure you know how to get to the test center and allow plenty of time to drive there.
* Do not forget your admission ticket and your photo ID.
* Get plenty of rest the night before the exam
* Eat well before the exam. A meal including quality protein is best.
* Wear comfortable clothing to the exam site. Dress in layers.
* Just before test time, go to the bathroom and avoid drinking a lot of fluids.
* Do your best to remain relaxed during the exam.
* Read the directions for each section before beginning, but do not spend a lot of time reading directions. You should have become familiar with the types of questions asked during your exam preparation so you can quickly identify what you are being asked to do.
* Do not rush through the answers. Complete the test and pace yourself as you did during your practice tests.
* For each sub-section answer easier questions first.
* Organize your thoughts before writing.
* Read all multiple choice question options before making an answer.
* On multiple choice questions you are unsure of, try to eliminate one or more choices. If you can get down to 2 or 3 possible correct answers, and you can make an intelligent guess, it may be prudent to do so.
* If you cannot eliminate any answers, do not blindly guess answers on multiple choice questions. Remember, there is a ¼ point penalty for incorrect answers.
* If you encounter a question which you have no idea how to answer, place a mark next to it and skip it. Do not spend time on questions you do not know how to answer.
* For critical reading of passages, read the introductory, italicized text, first and then the questions before reading the passage.
* Bring a calculator, but use it sparingly. Most SAT questions are designed to be answered without the use of a calculator.
* Make notes in your test booklet. Cross out incorrect answers in multiple choice questions. Make notes on the writing sections. Mark questions you are skipping or are unsure of to come back to later.
* Use all of the allotted time you are given. If you have extra time, go back to questions you skipped (these you should have marked) or review questions you were unsure of.
